As many as 10 tonnes of dead animal parts confiscated from a smuggling case have been destroyed in the central province of Quang Nam.

The items are in the process of being destroyed at the An Sinh Trading and Construction Ltd. Co’s incinerator in Dai Loc District, with the work scheduled to be completed by late Saturday.

The goods worth a total of VND300 billion (USD12.39 million) included 456.90 kilos of elephant ivory, 138.70 kilos of rhino horns, 6.20 tonnes of pangolin scales and 3.10 tonnes of lion bones. They were seized during a large-scale illegal wild animal wildlife trafficking case discovered at Danang City’s Tien Sa Port between 2021 and 2022.

Last year, police in Danang arrested Nguyen Duc Tai from Ha Tinh Province for allegedly running two companies to import animal products from Africa into Vietnam. Tai was then sentenced to 13 years in prison.
