Two ships carrying goods and other necessities arrived at the DK1 offshore platforms in the Spratly Islands on January 9.

The vessels which departed from Long Son Port in Vung Tau City on December 29 carried delegations and reporters who came with best wishes and gifts from the mainland to 10 military outposts and several patrol ships ahead of the Tet holiday.

Difficult weather with strong wind and high waves of up to 3-5 metres made the trip longer.

The delegation held a ceremony to commemorate the soldiers killed in the area.

Due to high waves, gifts had to be floated to the platforms from the vessels.

A kumquat tree was tightly wrapped before being floated to the platforms.

The visitors had to hang on rope ladders to get on to the platforms.

A soldier decorated an apricot tree for Tet.

Visitors and soldiers made Chung cakes on the platform.
