National Election Council reviews general election outcomes

The National Election Council on July 18 in Hanoi convened a meeting to sum up the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 term.

The National Election Council on July 18 in Hanoi convened a meeting to sum up the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 term.

The event drew the attendance of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Tran Dai Quang, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Head of the Council, and the Vice Heads of the Council.

Addressing the event, NA Chairwoman Ngan emphasized that the general election was of great importance for the implementation of the 12th Party Congress and the fulfillment of the socio-economic development plans for 2016.

The successful election drew the participation of over 67 million voters, accounting for 99%. It elected 496 NA deputies for the 14th tenure and 3,908 deputies of the provincial People’s Councils and 292,306 deputies of the communal People’s Councils.

Especially, the percentages of female, ethnic minority, young and university-level deputies were higher than the previous term.

NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, Deputy Head of the Council reported that the election was successful and conducted in a democratic, fair, economical manner and became a festival of people.
