At about 4 pm on September 8, mud hit Alley 7 of Giang Van Minh Street, Hanoi again, during tunnelling by Tunnel Boring Machine 2 for the Nhon-Hanoi Station Metro Line.
Local residents reported that sludge burst from the alley’s drainage system at that time and quickly spread across surrounding areas.
The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), investor of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line, mobilised personnel and worked with the tunnel contractor to deal with the incident.

The spill at Alley 7, Giang Van Minh Street, is not the first of its kind during tunnelling on the Nhon-Hanoi Station Metro Line. In late February, Tunnel Boring Machine 2 caused a similar incident that sent mud gushing into the surrounding neighbourhood.
By late May, another mud eruption occurred, spilling onto the pavement and road of Cat Linh Street.
Most recently, a mud spill appeared in Nui Truc Alley, prompting the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board to dispatch dozens of workers to contain the incident.
Hanoi’s Metro Line 3, running 12.5 kilometres from Nhon to Hanoi Station, includes eight elevated and four underground stations. The 8.5-kilometre elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay is already in service, while the 4 kilometres underground stretch to Hanoi Station remains under construction.
Work began in 2009 with completion planned for 2015, but repeated delays have pushed the target back to 2027.
