Treating Covid-19 patients in HCM City

On September 10, HCM City Standing Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced that after 24 hours from 6 pm on September 8 to 9, the city recorded 5,549 cases, totalling 278,703 cases since the start of the fourth wave on April 27.

HCM City hospitals are currently treating over 40,304 patients, including 2,727 child patients. Some 2,816 patients are using ventilators and ECMO. A total of 140,324 patients have recovered and been discharged.

On September 8, HCM City reported 203 deaths, a drop of nearly 60% compared to 340 deaths on August 22.

In order to prevent more deaths and serious cases, the city will continue to improve the healthcare quality and ensure that there will be enough personnel for the patients.

After September 15, depending on the situation, the city may gradually allow hospitals to serve patients with other diseases while maintaining field hospitals for worst-case scenarios. All hospitals must have a quarantine area and between 20-40 beds for Covid-19 patients at all times.

More screen tests will be carried out to detect new cases. Factory workers, healthcare workers, drivers, police and shippers should be tested at least once a week.

It is predicted that the situation will continue developing complicatedly, the city will maintain mobile clinics, improve public hospitals, and design mechanisms to let the private sector join the fight against Covid-19.
