Military decree for foreign ships issued

All foreign military ships must receive permission from Vietnamese authorities before entering the country's territorial waters, and agree to abide by Vietnamese laws.

This ruling is part of Government Decree 104/2012/ND-CP.

During their stay in Vietnam, foreign crew members must follow their scheduled itineraries, and any changes must be approved by local authorities.

Foreign military ships must also fly Vietnam's national flag together with their own national flag during their stay.

If foreign military ships arrive Vietnam on a visit, they have to anchor and operate within licensed harbours. All guidance and instructions from local Vietnamese agencies must be strictly obeyed.

According to the decree, crew members of foreign military ships would only be allowed to go ashore after completing all migration procedures.

In addition, the decree specifies activities which cannot be conducted by foreign military ships in Vietnam.

The decree will take effect from January 20 next year replacing Decree 55/CP issued on October 1 1996.
