Various ministries and experts met in a closed door meeting at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Hanoi to discuss the cause of the mass fish deaths along the coast of four central provinces.

The ministries of Health, Industry and Trade, Sciences and Technology and Agriculture and Rural Development met in a closed door meeting at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Hanoi to discuss the cause of the mass fish deaths along the coast of four central provinces.

The media had been expecting a public press conference to publicise the finding of an investigation into what had caused the deaths but instead they found officials would meet in a closed room.

Formosa PR head sacked

In other developments in the now long-running saga, Formosa, the company at the heart of the dispute over liability for the fish deaths, sacked their public relations director after what they called ‘careless’ words.

The public relations director of Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Ltd., Chou Chun Fan had suggested to local media that Vietnam should choose between having a modern steel industry or an untainted natural environment to catch fish and crabs, it couldn’t have both.

Chou Chun Fan, said sorry to the public at the news conference held in Ha Tinh Province on April 26

"Once again I want to say sorry for my statements that have badly affected the good relationship between the Formosa Group and the Vietnamese government and people," Fam told DTiNews early this afternoon.

Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Ltd., yesterday held a news conference in Ha Tinh Province where Fan apologised with other company executives.
