On November 16, lots of dead fish were found in the area near Quang An Street. The dead fish can be seen along a 1.5-kilometre section of the street.
The dead fish drifted to the West Lake Temple.

Some local people said that the fish deaths have been reported for many days but more were seen on November 16.
Environmental workers were sent to gather the dead fish from the lake.
Hanoi Department of Construction explained that the fish died of water pollution, changing weather and a lack of oxygen.
Earlier in 2016 and 2018, hundreds of tonnes of fish were also found dead at West Lake. Test results from the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources and Environment showed that the fish died from a lack of oxygen.
