The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park’s Rescue, Conservation and Development Centre, in coordination with the Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Centre, carried out the release on April 2.

The animals were returned to the park after a period of care and rehabilitation. In total, 166 individuals from 17 species were released, including both common forest species and those listed in Group IIB under Vietnam’s classification of rare and endangered flora and fauna.

Species of high conservation value included great hornbills, Indochinese box turtles, yellow-headed temple turtles, masked palm civets and silver pheasants.
All animals had been handed over by authorities or voluntarily surrendered by members of the public. After being transferred to the centre, they underwent strict health recovery and conditioning at the Hanoi centre before being deemed fit for release back into their natural habitat.
