Lecturers earn more as universities get self-financing autonomy

After being granted self-financing autonomy to some universities in 2018, the number of lecturers with incomes of over VND 200 million (USD8,696) per year increased from 19.40 percent to 31.34 percent by 2021; and those with incomes over VND 300 million per year grew from 0.75 percent to 5.97 percent.


Management staff also saw their incomes rise by 18.70 percent during this period, the report said.

So far 32.76 percent of universities in the country have applied financial autonomy and they are reporting good revenues.

Five of the top 10 universities with the highest revenues were financially autonomous. They are FPT University, Hanoi University of Science & Technology, Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. They all posted revenues of over VND 1 trillion per year.
