Each carriage is 21 metres long, three metres wide and four metres high.
All of the trains for the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route were made in Japan with a design speed of 110 kilometres per hour.
The three-carriage trains are 61.5 metres long and can transport 930 passengers each. They can travel at 110 kilometres per hour on elevated sections and 80 kilometres per hour underground.
The trains are disabled, elderly and pregnant woman-friendly in design.
The trains underwent pilot runs by Hitachi before being brought to HCM City. The first trains for the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro route arrived in HCM City in October 2020.
Nguyen Quoc Hien, deputy head of the Management Authority for Urban Railways, said that the route’s pilot run will be divided into different stages. It will be firstly conducted at Long Binh Depot and then from the depot to Binh Thai Station before the whole route.
The training for 58 train drivers has been resumed after a long suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The VND43.7 trillion Ben Than-Suoi Tien is HCM City’s first metro project. The route has three underground and 11 elevated stations. It is expected to be put into operation in 2023.
To date, around 90 percent of the project’s work has been finished.
