Police in Quang Tan Commune, Lam Dong Province, said on January 8 they had received two long-tailed macaques from local residents and were working with relevant agencies to handle the case.
Earlier, Pham Thi Phuong discovered two wild monkeys entering her home and garden to look for food, causing damage to household items. Fearing the animals could become aggressive and pose a danger to people, she and other residents captured the macaques and handed them over to the authorities.
Long-tailed macaques, scientifically known as Macaca fascicularis, are forest animals listed under group IIB, classified as endangered and rare species requiring protection.
Quang Tan Commune police said they are coordinating with forest rangers and related units to assess the health of the two macaques and complete procedures to release them back into the natural environment.
