Farmers in Dran Commune, one of Lam Dong Province’s key vegetable-producing areas, have been left with nothing after severe flooding struck more than ten days ago.

Across the fields, greenhouses have collapsed, and entire vegetable crops have been buried or washed away.

Residents said heavy rain before dawn on November 20, combined with flood discharge from the Danhim-Ham Thuan-Da Mi Hydropower Company, created powerful torrents that inundated surrounding areas. Vegetable farms along the Danhim River were swept away or severely damaged, with many high-tech greenhouses destroyed.

Nguyen Hung, who grows vegetables on 0.5 hectares in Dran, said the flood collapsed his storage shed containing machinery, fertilisers and pesticides. “The floodwaters washed away crops, electrical systems and irrigation equipment,” he said.

Nguyen Thi Le Quyen sat in shock beside what remained of her farm. “I built a high-tech greenhouse to run a nursery supplying vegetable seedlings to local farmers, but the flood swept everything away. I lost more than VND 1 billion,” she said.

The one-hectare farm of Nguyen Trong Huong, located along the Danhim River, suffered severe erosion. “The soil was stripped away, leaving only bare rock. I have no idea how to restore the land for cultivation,” he said.

According to Dran Commune authorities, the November 20 floods affected thousands of hectares of crops, including 460 hectares of vegetable-growing land that were completely destroyed. The collapse of greenhouses and net-house structures brought estimated losses to more than VND 116 billion.

Local officials are continuing to assess the damage and have requested Lam Dong Province and relevant agencies to provide support to help farmers recover.
