The village is located in Cam Hiep Nam Commune, Cam Lam District, Khanh Hoa Province.
Potential students in the village pass entrance exams of universities or colleges almost every year with ease.
Nguyen Dinh Can, Head of Quang Duc village said, “If we do not have enough rice to eat, we will eat potatoes. It’s being illiterate that people will not accept.”
According to Can, in 1973, about 300 families living in Trieu Phong District, Quang Tri Province, moved to Quang Duc to settle down in hopes of finding a better life. Among those new settlers were 17 teachers.
Despite difficulties in the new village, they were determined that they would not let their children become illiterate. Thus, they built the first school here which is now called Cam Hiep Nam Primary School.
The 17 teachers had resumed their teaching careers in Quang Duc Village. These dedicated teachers have inspired their pupils with love and passion of the teaching profession. Generation after generation, many of them have become teachers.
In the village, many families have parents, children and even their grandchildren who work as teachers. Tran Minh Hai’s family has 7 teachers and Nguyen Duc Thuong’s has 6.
Tran Minh Hai, 73, said, “During the first days when we came here, our lives had many challenges. We often ate corn or cassava. However, teaching and learning activities here have been always exciting. Our village’s students always win prizes when they attend any competition.”
Can added, “A public speaker system is used for urging children to study two times per day. The first time is at 4.30am and the second time is at 7pm. Children are not allowed to hang around on roads when their self-study time comes.”
In order to encourage the children to study, the village has the Le Dinh Team for promoting learning. Students who have excellent study results will be awarded and praised. In addition, the Le Dinh Team also has a fund helping disadvantaged children continue their schooling by giving them loans without charging any interest.
Thanks to efforts and activities for promoting studies, students here have admirable results. This year, the village has 12 potential students. 4 of them have passed the university entrance exams and the remaining students have passed the entrance exams of colleges or vocational schools.
Can proudly shared, “Almost every year, pupils of my village have good results on the exams.”
A new school year has come. Teachers and pupils in Quang Duc village will once again be busy with their teaching and learning.
