The two fishing boats owned by Duong Teo from Nha Trang City caught over five tonnes of tuna. Teo said this was the first bountiful catch after several losses. The tuna prices also increased by VND10,000 (USD43 US cents) per kilo to VND90,00-VND115,000.

"After this catch, I'll see a profit of over VND300m (USD12,900)," he said.

Tran Chung, the captain of another fishing boat said up to 40% of the boats that went out to the sea this time had good catches and would make significant profits.

"During this time, the tuna often appear near the Spratly and Paracel islands and the DK1 rigs. We were able to catch over one tonne of tuna this time and probably earn VND40m (USD1,700) to VND50m," he said.

Both the amount of fish and the fish quality have greatly improved compared to recent months so the tuna prices have marginally increased.

According to the management board of Hon Ro Port, tens of fishing boats went to sea in the past months leading up to Tet and brought back good catches.
