Japan, Vietnam discuss cooperation in vocational training

Japanese businesses, which are operating over 2,000 projects in Vietnam, are in need of a high-quality workforce, says Vietnamese ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung.

At a seminar in Tokyo on September 14, Hung stressed the need to boost bilateral cooperation in vocational training between Vietnam and Japan to meet the requirements for economic development.


Nguyen Ngoc Phi, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, reaffirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to developing high-quality human resources.


Therefore, he said, Vietnam hopes to strengthen cooperation in vocational training with the East Asian nation and said that the development of Vietnamese universities and vocational-training schools reflects the positive results of such cooperation.


Phi expressed hopes to learn from Japan’s experience in vocational training and asked the country to help Vietnam establish well-qualified trainers and develop its infrastructure according to Japanese standards.


Seinoo Yoshihiro, assistant to Japanese Minister of Health, Labor, and Welfare, said that an outstanding workforce is the key to maintaining the high level of competitiveness of Japanese businesses.


Nobuko Kayashima, Director General of the Human Development Department under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), described the cooperation in vocational training with Vietnam as a successful model and said that the project involving Hanoi University of Industry should be expanded to improve the quality of Vietnamese labourers.
