The training course on restoring paper paintings is taking place at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi from October 5-9.

The course aims to contribute to raising the knowledge and qualifications of remodeling and restoring paper paintings for officials and cadres of the National Centre for Preservation and Restoration of Fine Art Works under the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, National Museums in Hanoi, the National Archives Department, local museums, libraries and memorial sites.

The course will take place under the instruction of two experts - Dr Andrea Pataki-Hundt (Stuttgart Restoration Institute, Germany) and Ines Jesche (Zurich Restoration Institute, Switzerland).

During the course, the trainees will learn about the modern methods techniques, equipment used in preserving and restoring paper paintings, documents and artifacts.

The participants will learn more about use of natural scientific technology and fine art studies in restoration, and improve presentation skills.

Additionally, this is a good opportunity for them to create a link between art history researchers, curators of collections, scientists and restorers in the country and abroad.

The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum currently preserves nearly 5,000 paper items, many of which have been seriously damaged due to bad weather and preservation conditions.

Initiated in 2013, the co-operation programme between the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum and Dresden Fine Arts University has featured a wide range of activities, including numerous training courses on remodeling and restoring oil paintings and wooden artifacts in Vietnam, and practical training courses in Germany for Vietnamese experts.
