The Madam Phuong Banh My Hoi An shop has reopened after a three-month suspension imposed by local authorities following a food poisoning incident affecting hundreds of customers.

The Madam Phuong Banh My Hoi An shop reopens on January 3, 2024.
The shop, which is located at 2B Phan Chu Trinh Street, Hoi An City, used to be very crowded before the incident, but only received a few customers on January 4.
A staff member at the shop said that they reopened on January 3 after the suspension period ended.
"We only sold 300 sandwiches on the first day we reopened," she said. "The number of customers has also been small today. Maybe many of our customers haven't heard about our reopening yet and we hope that more people will return in the coming time."
A representative from the shop shared that they'd co-operated with local authorities to tighten checks on all ingredients and preparatory steps following the last incident.
Earlier on September 11-12, 313 customers including 103 international visitors were hospitalised due to food poisoning after having sandwiches at Madam Phuong shop.
Most of the victims struggled with stomachaches, nausea and digestive problems.
According to the conclusion from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, seven out of 12 food samples from the shop tested positive for the leading foodborne bacteria, Bacillus cereus and Salmonella spp.
Quang Nam Province’s Department of Health issued a fine of VND96 million and a three-month suspension of trade due to the shop’s violations.
Madam Phuong shop had to cover all expenses related to food poisoning treatment, examination, and treatment for all affected individuals.
Truong Thi Phuong, the owner of Madam Phuong shop, sent a heartfelt letter to customers who suffered from food poisoning after eating her sandwiches.
Many of the affected customers had filed lawsuits against the shop.
