The Ministry of Health has held hundreds of training courses for more than 6,000 health professionals to help raise awareness of medical ethics following the recent scams in the sector.

According to Health Minister, Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, never before has the ministry held so many courses on medical ethics. She added that, “If any hospital is found to be violating medical ethics, titles of workers there, such as People’s Doctor, will be re-considered.”
Tien expected that agencies at different levels and individuals would join in on the supervision of medical ethics.
The Ministry of Health has set up a hotline to receive people’s opinion on medical ethics for more than ten days. Tien said the hotline has already received around 1,000 calls, fielding complaining about attitudes of medical staff to patients and sluggish settlement of medical check-up and treatment procedures at district and province hospitals.
The Health Minister hailed National Assembly deputies’ opinion about the weakness of the health sector, particularly those related to medical ethics. She noted that the Health Ministry will try to finish a project on medical check-ups and improvement of treatment at hospitals at district and province levels.
Recently, the Ministry of Health faced a number of scandals which has raised public anger, including the death of three newborn babies in Quang Tri Province after being given hepatitis vaccinations, blood test duplication at Hoai Duc District General Hospital in Hanoi and the case in which Doctor Nguyen Manh Tuong in Hanoi threw the body of a woman into a river after she died at his salon after surgery.
