Dr. Le Hoang Minh from the Tumor Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City said Wednesday that although they were ready to operate on Nguyen Duy Hai to remove a 90 kg tumor, they were delaying procedures due to medical reasons.

31-year-old Nguyen Duy Hai from Da Lat City in the central highland province of Lam Dong is suffering with a 90 kg tumor on his right leg.

Dr. Minh said that while conducting a CT scan, doctors discovered that Hai suffered from pleural effusion in his left lung, a symptom where excess fluid accumulates between the pleura surrounding the lungs. The cause of the disease is still unknown.

Patients of pleural effusion are easily prone to respiratory failure and death during a surgery.

Dr. Minh said the hospital would check again the patient’s health condition and accordingly decide whether to have the operation on November 18 as initially planned.

American physician McKay McKinnon, the main surgeon for the operation, will arrive in HCMC on November 16 along with his team of assistants.
