HCM City’s Covid-19 deaths forecasted to increase

The number of Covid-19 patients with worsening conditions has been on the rise, which would cause a higher rate of deaths related to the disease.

According to Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the HCM City Department of Health, HCM City is now home to around 100,000 Covid-19 patients, including 95,000 being treated at home and quarantine sites.

Over the past week, the city has recorded 44,100 Covid-19 cases, up 37,500 cases against the week before. The rate of local Covid-19-infected students reached 6.4 percent, with the highest proportion of that figure accounted for by high schoolers.

Patients using respirators have risen by 5-7 cases per day to 97 cases in total at present. Most Covid-19 patients experiencing worsened health have underlying medical conditions.

He urged localities to take drastic measures to reduce the number of cases in worsened health.

Vice-chairman of the city people’s committee Duong Anh Duc said that many people who are in groups at high risk of being infected, once hospitalised, test positive for Covid-19. He asked medical establishments to co-operate with localities on measures for the the protection of people aged from 65 and those with underlying medical issues.
