HCM City sees rise in hand, foot, and mouth disease cases
HCM City’s pediatrics hospitals are serving more patients of hand, foot, and mouth disease, including many who are being hospitalised for the treatment.
The patient number has been forecasted to continue to rise by the Lunar New Year or Tet Holiday.
Hand, foot, mouth disease is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by the Coxsackie virus (A16) and Enterovirus 71 (EV71). The viral illness commonly affects children aged under five and has no vaccine or specific treatment, the Vietnam News Agency said.
Parents need to watch out for severe signs, such as high fever of up to 40 degrees Celsius lasting for more than two days, shivering, cold limbs, and excessive vomiting, and quickly take their kids to a hospital.
