The southern province of Kien Giang has proposed the temporary suspension of flights from HCM City to Phu Quoc Island for Covid-19 prevention.
According to the Kien Giang Provincial People’s Committee, the province has not recorded any local Covid-19 cases to date. However, the pandemic has continued spreading in Vietnam, particularly in HCM City. All 22 districts in HCM City have been affected by the pandemic. Meanwhile, many southern provinces such as Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Tien Giang, Dong Thap and An Giang are also struggling with the pandemic.
Phu Quoc Island’s health resources are limited, particularly facilities for Covid-19 testing and quarantine as well as treatment. So the province have recommended halting flights between HCM City and Phu Quoc from today, July 6.
The Ministry of Transport have asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to consider the province’s proposal.
Other localities have suspended flights to HCM City, including Haiphong, Quang Ninh, Quang Binh, Gia Lai, Kien Giang, Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue.
