HCM City experiences hail on July 4

Ho Chi Minh City experienced a surprise hailstorm on the afternoon of July 4, leaving three injured.

Locals said that the hail lasted for two minutes, which was then followed by a downpour in some districts.

“I’ve seen hail in some central highlands provinces. However, this is the first time I’ve experienced a storm in Ho Chi Minh City,” said Tran Minh Phu, a taxi driver.

The downpour was accompanied by strong winds that brought down trees along streets in Districts No. 3, 5 and 10, seriously affecting local traffic.

A tree branch fell on a Vinasun taxi, smashing the car’s windscreen while it was parking in front of a house on Ly Chinh Thang in District No.3’s Ward 7, leaving no injuries.

The incident had caused serious traffic jams on Ly Chinh Thang, with traffic only easing after 6pm.

A 20 metre tall welcome gate also collapsed on Lu Gia road in District No. 11’s Ward 15, leaving three seriously injured.

Drivers on Lu Gia Road also experienced prolonged traffic congestion after a tree collapsed, blocking the road.
