According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnam exported 114,200 tonnes of coffee worth USD 511.8 million in September.
In the first nine months of 2026, coffee exports totalled 1.4 million tonnes, worth USD 6.54 billion. Export volume rose 15.4 per cent from the same period last year, while export value fell 7.3 per cent.
Germany, Italy and Japan were Vietnam's three largest coffee markets, accounting for 13 per cent, 8.2 per cent and 7.2 per cent of total exports respectively.
The average coffee export price during the period was estimated at USD 4,537.3 a tonne, nearly 20 per cent lower than a year earlier.
The Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade said global coffee prices fell in September as supply improved, particularly in Brazil, which supplied nearly 72 million bags of coffee in the 2025-26 crop year.
Despite the decline in overall coffee export revenue, processed coffee exports posted notable growth in the early months of 2026.
Processed coffee exports reached USD 1.2 billion in the first eight months, up 1.7 per cent from the same period in 2025 and accounting for 19.9 per cent of total coffee export revenue.
The growth was driven by market demand and businesses' efforts to diversify their products. However, the Import-Export Department said the increase remained below the sector's potential because of high costs and increasingly stringent import requirements.
To raise the share of processed coffee, businesses need to invest in technology, develop raw-material areas and build stronger brands, the department said.
Some coffee-growing areas in Vietnam began the new harvest in early October. However, expectations of increased supply have prompted buyers to adopt a cautious approach, putting further pressure on prices.
Coffee prices in Lam Dong and Gia Lai ranged from VND 93,200 to VND 94,000 (USD 3.59-3.62) per kilo, depending on the area surveyed, during the first week of October.
Domestic Robusta prices had therefore fallen by VND 1,700-1,800 a kilo compared with early September.
