The terminal is intended to help save costs for passengers and reduce congestion at the entrance to Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport
This station would be situated at the commercial centre and parking lot adjacent to Cach Mang Thang Tam Street and Nguyen Du Street in Ben Thanh Ward, some 8 kilometres from Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Once the terminal becomes operation, passengers do not need to be present at Tan Son Nhat International Airport three hours before departure. Instead, they can come to the transhipment terminal.
Passengers and their luggage will then be under security control at the transhipment terminal until they enter into the isolation area of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The investor in the transhipment terminal would work with airlines to provide the services, so passengers would not have to pay additional fees for their tickets.
The terminal would be connected with Thu Thiem - Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro route which then is linked to Thu Thiem - Long Thanh light rail line to Long Thanh International Airport in the future.
The air transhipment terminal is a popular model in many countries such as Japan, Malaysia and Austria.
