
Le Duong, 33, was detained on Friday for assigning a driver whose driving license had been revoked for previous traffic violations to drive a company bus that was later blamed for an accident that left five passengers dead and three others injured.
Dong Nai Police checked the company's headquarters in District 5, HCM City and detained Duong there on November 10.
Earlier the police also arrested the driver, Hoang Van Tinh.
According to the investigation team, Duong arranged for Tinh to drive a sleeper bus from HCM City to Dalat City on September 30. He crashed into a 16-seat van on National Highway 20 in southern Dong Nai Province, leaving five passengers on the van dead and three others injured. Investigations showed that Tinh was speeding when the accident happened. Earlier he also had his driving license revoked on August 5 for the same violation.
Thanh Buoi Company had their business license suspended for three months and were fined VND91 million following the accident.
"We're still investigating to see if other individuals and organisations are involved in the operation of the company.
Established in 2000, Thanh Buoi is a major transport service provider in the southern region which operates routes connecting HCM City, the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, and the Central Highlands city of Dalat.
