On February 25, the group Hanoi Green gathered at Am Bridge in Van Phuc Ward in Ha Dong District to collect rubbish on La Khe Canal which is struggling with the severe pollution.

Head of the group Nguyen Tien Huy, 28, said that the team decided to do the work after surveying the canal depth.

"Only members who get vaccinated against tetanus were allowed to collect rubbish on the canal. Meanwhile, others can work on the banks and provide support,” Huy added.

The group has cleaned many polluted spots in Hanoi since December 2022, including the To Lich River, La Khe Canal and Linh Dam Lake.

Initially, each time saw the participation of 3-4 members. Then the figure has gradually increased to 10-15 and 25-30 at the weekend.

Each time lasts around 5-7 hours, depending on the amount of rubbish.

Despite signage installed, people still throw rubbish into La Khe Canal.

Members are provided with protective clothes, gloves and tools such as bags, sticks and buckets.

Van Anh, 32, took her son from Hoai Duc District to join the work at La Khe Canal. “I hope that taking part in the work will help my son to have a better awareness of environmental protection,” she said.
