According to Nguyen Van Khoi, Deputy Chairman of Hanoi's People's Committee, five steel overpasses were put into use last year. The overpasses not only eased congestion, but also reduced the number of traffic accidents.
Despite the city eliminating 22 of 89 top congestion trouble spots, it is still seeing slow construction work in areas such Van Cao-Ho Tay or Road No. 35 project.
Hanoi authorities have requested the Department of Transport to complete slow construction work by Tet, including Yen Vi Bridge, the Nhat Tan-Xuan La section of Ring Road II, the Dai Co Viet-Tran Khat Chan overpass and pedestrian bridge at Bac Thang Long Industrial Park.
The authorities will also cut red tape to speed the beginning of construction work in the first quarter on Tran Phu-Kim Ma Street, Gom Bridge and Dam Mo Bridge.
Other urgent work includes an overpass near the Daewoo Hotel, a bridge near Linh Dam Urban Area or some bridges to cross the To Lich River.
However, these projects currently lack funds. Khoi said the city had agreed for the Department of Transport to prepare investment plans for the outstanding projects. The department would send the plans to the People's Committee in the second quarter of 2013 for approval.
