According to inspectors from the Hanoi Department of Transport, besides the fine, the driver, Pham Viet Kieu will have his vehicle confiscated for seven days and his driving licence revoked for two months.

Reports from the department said that on the evening of August 8, a Dutch tourist, Hageraats Alexander took a taxi with his two sons from 162 Tran Quang Khai Street to Hang Bun Street in Ba Dinh District.

The taxi driver then asked for VND450,000 (USD20) for a journey of about two kilometres.

When the passengers complained about the high fee, Kieu got angry with them. The tourists then called to the hotline of the Hanoi Department of Tourist to inform about the case.

On August 10, the taxi was found and the driver was identified as operating illegal taxi service.

The Dutch tourists were called to the office of the Transport Department on August 11 where the driver apologised and returned the overcharged money to them.
