Hanoi and other northern localities in Vietnam have been under the influence of typhoon Kai Tak which was just 90 kilometers east of from Mong Cai and is moving at speed of 25kph.

At the center of the typhoon, strong gusts of wind have blown up to 117 kph, according to the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center. It is forecast that the typhoon will keep on moving at the direction between the west and the northwest. So, the typhoon is predicted to lash the northeastern provinces in the mainland of Vietnam in the 12 coming hours.
Then it will weaken into a tropical low pressure system. At 4:00am on Saturday, the center of the system will be whirling above the mountainous area in the northeast, with the winds blowing from 39-49kph.
In the Friday afternoon, Hanoi has been badly affected by the storm with strong winds and heavy rains. Many streets have been under 0.6 meter – 0.8 meter of flood water. Big trees were blown up, crushing cars and motorbikes on streets.
No casualties have been reported.
The storm, which is combining with a strong southwest monsoon, will also cause rough seas in the middle and southern areas of the East Sea, including the waters around the Truong Sa archipelago, and in the coastal region between Binh Thuan and Ca Mau, with winds of 40- 45 kph and gusts of up to 51- 75 kph.
Authorities in coastal provinces as Hai Phong and Quang Ninh have deployed personnel forces to protect dikes, crops, under construction sites, and public infrastructure as highways, electricity grid, and schools.
Hundreds of ships have been guided to safely anchor in shelters.
