Vice-Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung directed the Department of Transport to work with the Department of Public Security and district and communal authorities to deal with 8-10 hotspots that often have congestion and traffic accidents from now until the end of 2020.

They must also regulate the traffic and have measures to prevent congestion at key traffic points, especially during Independence Day on September 2 and other special events. Moreover, they should strengthen inspections, public awareness programme and have stricter punishments to limit violations.

Hanoi still has 33 congestion spots and 12 accident-prone areas. Last year, the city police and traffic department dealt with 10 congestion spots but 10 new spots appeared. Some districts with most congestion spots are Hoang Mai, Dong Da, Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung and Cau Giay districts.

Thuong Tin District has six accident-prone spots, Soc Son District has three spots, Son Tay District has two spots, Phuc Tho and Dong Da district has one spot each.
