Scraps are also dumped along the canals. The pollution poses health risks for people who live near the canal.

Hanoi has 104 irrigation lakes, 105 rivers and canals with a total length of more than 799km, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment reported. However, water sources are in danger of depletion and pollution.
