Nguyen Vu Linh, director of Bach Ma National Park in Hue City, said on April 13 that the park had coordinated with Animals Asia and Ho Chi Minh City forest rangers to rescue and transport the animals to the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre.
The rescued group includes two Asiatic black bears and two sun bears, all over 20 years old and microchipped since 2005. This marks the first time the Bach Ma centre has received sun bears, including one individual that has lost sight in its left eye.

According to Animals Asia, the bears were sedated and placed in specialised transport cages to ensure safety during the 900 km journey from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, arriving on the evening of April 14.
Upon arrival, the animals will undergo a minimum 30 day quarantine period for health monitoring before being gradually introduced to a semi natural environment.

Given their advanced age and long history in captivity, the bears will receive care under strict veterinary and animal welfare standards. Each animal will be assigned an individual care plan tailored to its health condition and ability to adapt.
The park said it had prepared facilities and personnel to receive the bears and would work closely with relevant agencies to ensure safe and proper procedures throughout the transfer, quarantine and rehabilitation process.
