Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in several localities in the Philippines left at least 13 people dead and forced thousands to evacuate, according to Xinhua news agency.
The agency quoted local government officials as saying on January 13 that 11 of the fatalities were caused by landslides that hit mining communities in Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental provinces.
Meanwhile, two others were drowned after floodwater swamped communities in Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur province.
Floods inundated roads, damaged several bridges and swept away many houses.
Local officials fear the rains in the next two-three days may worsen the already harsh living conditions in these areas.
