Floods and landslides affect many areas in Quang Tri

Heavy rain has caused widespread flooding and landslides across the central province of Quang Tri, forcing the evacuation of 46 residents from high-risk areas.

The provincial Civil Defence Command said that in the past 24 hours, torrential rain had inundated low crossings and spillways in mountainous localities, including Khe Sanh, Ba Long, Ta Rut and Dakrong, with water depths reaching 0.3 to 0.5 metres.

Authorities have set up roadblocks and warning signs at vulnerable points, urging residents to avoid travelling through flooded or landslide-prone zones.

In Khe Sanh Commune, prolonged downpours have swollen local streams, raising the risk of flash floods in Huc Thuong Hamlet. Ten households, comprising 46 people, have been relocated to safer areas.

The heavy rain has also triggered multiple landslides along the western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway that runs through Quang Tri. At kilometre marker 282 in Ta Rut Commune, two major landslides sent rocks, soil and trees cascading onto the road, causing temporary traffic disruption.

Traffic police from Dakrong Station, along with Ta Rut Commune police and the road management unit, have been deployed to clear debris and restore traffic flow.
