The serious flooding triggered by heavy rains following a low tropical pressure has badly affected many northern and central provinces and cities, with Nghe An being the hardest hit.
Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that as of 5 pm on September 28, six people had died in the heavy rains and floods in Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa, Son La and Hoa Binh provinces. Two others had gone missing in Son La Province.
Over 1,700 houses in Nghe An had been flooded and over 830 households were isolated by the floods. Nearly 3,000 cattle and poultry have died and thousands of hectares of crops damaged in the floods.
The floods have also damaged dozens of houses, roads and vast areas of crops in many northern provinces including Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, Son La, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Phu Tho and Nam Dinh.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the rains will continue on Friday morning in some northern central areas and stop in the afternoon.
