Drowning remains one of the leading causes of death among children in Vietnam, despite child deaths having been reduced by an average of 100 cases per year. A study by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs showed that more than 2,000 children lose their lives every year to drowning in Vietnam.

As part of an initiative to prevent child injuries, including drowning, MOLISA has co-operated with the World Health Organisation to launch a programme that will focus activities on teaching at least 13,000 children survival swimming and 20,000 children water safety education in 2022.
