Boat QNg 98703 TS owned by fisherman Ngo Van Sang have docked at Binh Chau fishing port in Binh Son District with up to over five tonnes of different fish. The catch included the parrotfish with many weighing more than 30 kilos.

Despite the good catch, Sang was still unhappy because of the dramatic 50-70% fall on usual prices.

"Traders only offered VND20,000 per kilo of parrotfish against VND35,000 per kilo of this kind of fish of smaller size previously. Many other kinds of fish have seen even sharper price declines,” Sang added.

Sang’s boat and 10-member crew spent a total cost of VND120 million (USD5,217). With a catch of five tonnes, each crew member will have a modest income.

Vo Van Thanh, a local fisherman, said that the current weather was suitable for fishing; but seafood prices are on a fall. Most of the boats have suffered losses.

According to seafood traders, the seafood demand has drastically fallen because of Covid-19. The pandemic has affected the export and caused restaurants to temporarily close.
