A fire started at 3.45pm on March 24 on the 25th story of the Keangnam tower, which is still under construction, on Pham Hung Road, Hanoi.
Fire-fighting and prevention forces were at the scene but were unable to extinguish the fire because security guards closed all the doors and did not allow anyone to enter.
Some witnesses working near the site said that they saw smoke coming out from the 25th floor of the building. After a while, some workers were rescued with a rope. They used the rope to climb down unaffected floors.
Two fire trucks and one elevator truck arrived at the site but they could not enter because all doors were closed.
When DTiNews showed up to the scene, the two fire trucks were still parked by the road and fire fighters were waiting outside. Some police from Tu Liem District couldn’t get in either.
After waiting for half an hour, smoke stopped coming out and the fire trucks left the site because they couldn’t get in.
According to a news source, while workers were welding smoke tubes on the 29th floor, some sparks dropped into plastic water drainage tubes on the 25th floor that caused the fire.
However, authorities are investigating the reasons behind the fire and its damages. This is the first fire case but there have been many incidents at the site.
