Authorities in the southern coastal province of Kien Giang have temporarily halted ferry and boat services to Phu Quoc Island due to the effects of storm TALIM.

According to Kien Giang Province Port Authority, local sea has experienced strong wind and high waves since July 16 as storm TALIM is coming and forecasted to cause thunderstorms and tornadoes in the coming hours.

They have halted ferry and speedboat services between Rach Gia and Phu Quoc, Nam Du, Hon Son; and between Ha Tien and Phu Quoc until further notice. Boat and ferry tickets that have been purchased can be returned or rescheduled.

As of 4am on July 17, TALIM was swirling across the waters about 340km east and south-east of China’s Leizhou Peninsula, with winds gusting up to 150kph near its centre, according to the National Centre for Hydro Meteorological Forecasting.

In the next 24 hours, TALIM is forecast to move between west and north-west at a speed of up to 20kph, and is likely to gain further strength.

At 4pm on July 18, the typhoon is anticipated to lose its strength a bit and strike the northern coast of Quang Ninh and Hai Phong, with maximum sustained winds of 120kph.
