Prof. Do Van Dung, deputy headmaster of the HCM City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said that many countries with high Covid-19 vaccination rates are facing the same problem as HCM City. For instance, over the past month since easing social distancing measures, France has faced a recurrence of Covid-19 with roughly 7,000 cases daily. This means the rate of 73 new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people per week, is equal to that of HCM City at present.

Dung added that currently, HCM City is focusing on boosting Covid-19 vaccination rather than testing and tracing activities. “Currently, it is best to live with the pandemic, while widening the vaccination coverage,” Dung noted.
The number of new Covid-19 cases every day is still under control. But it has been stressed that it is important for the city to intensify vaccinations and people should continue to pay attention to Covid-19 protocols.
High vaccination coverage will help considerably reduce risks.
Dung said that around two percent of fully-vaccinated people can experience worsened conditions when being infected by Covid-19 but the death rate among those is just 0.5%.
