As the Vietnam and U.S. celebrate 15 years of diplomatic relations, US Ambassador Michael Michalak held a press conference highlighting the accomplishments and progress of the relationship.

Ambassador Michalak shared his thoughts about a relationship that has rapidly developed into a very important and mutually beneficial one over the last 15 years.

Vietnam and the U.S. are in meetings and conversations constantly, working together on issues such as the economy, investment, development, military to military relations, APEC, ASEAN and the United Nations Security Council.

He also pointed out that, "I believe, over the past 15 years, there has been a huge increase in the trust between the US and Vietnam.” He sees great progress and much potential in the future as Vietnam is growing fast and is one of the top-nine countries that will be focused on by the United States in terms of bilateral trade and investment.

As part of the conference, the official logo celebrating the relationship, submitted by a Vietnamese man as part of a nation-wide contest, was unveiled by the ambassador.

The logo is a kite with with the Vietnamese and U.S. flag, representing the ability for the relationship to rise together. Winner Nguyen Tran Duong, of Hanoi, said that his design represents, “The two nations in a positively ascending relationship."

The winning logo was chosen from a total of 108 submissions and will be used on materials related to the anniversary.

Senator Jim Webb will be in Hanoi next week to speak about the relationship and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will attend the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Hanoi.
