The Vietnamese Embassy in the US held a New Year get-together for Vietnamese nationals in Washington DC on March 19.

Representatives of Vietnamese diplomatic agencies and communities in Washington DC and the vicinity attended the event.

Ambassador Le Cong Phung thanked the participants for working closely together to live stable lives in the US and for contributing to the homeland. He asked them to uphold the tradition of unity and mutual assistance to prosper in 2010 and support their compatriots in Vietnam.

Nguyen Dieu, who has been living in Washington DC for nearly 30 years, said he was proud to attend such a large meeting of Vietnamese nationals in the US.

“I wish all of you good health, great success and prosperity in the New Year,” he said.

Vo Kim Dung, another Vietnamese national who has been living in the US for 6 years, said she has been looking forward to the meeting for a long time.

“I am very happy to meet my friends in Washington DC and enjoy traditional dishes. I think I will return to Vietnam every three or four months to visit my relatives and seek new business opportunities,” said Ms Dung.

Participants were treated to songs in praise of Vietnam and its people, performed by People’s Artist Quang Tho and Emeritus Artist Minh Duc.
“I have travelled many places in the world, but I am very moved to receive thunderous applause and such great feelings from the audiences,” said artist Quang Tho. “I am proud to see that everyone here wants to turn their hearts and minds towards Vietnam.”
