Earthquakes strike Quang Ngai

A powerful earthquake struck the central province of Quang Ngai early this morning, September 11, startling residents more than 150 kilometres from the epicentre.

According to the Institute of Geophysics, the 4.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in Mang But Commune at approximately 1.36 am with a focal depth of roughly 8.1 kilometres.

A resident of Pleiku in Gia Lai Province said that although his house is over 150 kilometres from Mang But, the quake still shook it strongly, making the house sway and the ground tremble.

The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre, under the Institute of Earth Sciences, has continued to monitor the earthquakes.

Since 2021, hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Quang Ngai, some of which caused widespread tremors.

The strongest was a magnitude 5.0 quake at noon on July 28 last year, followed by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake on August 23, 2022.
