Dong Nai police bust large-scale fake fuel ring

The police in Dong Nai worked with the Ministry of Public Security and the police in different provinces and cities to set up 14 teams with 500 police to work on the case. They quickly inspected the warehouse, fuel stations and offices in Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Long An and HCM City.

They also caught red-handed a smuggling ship in Vinh Long Province. The smugglers were aggressive and tried to ram the police ship. The police seized two ships that weigh 1,500 tonnes each, 12 boxes of documents, over VND100bn (USD4.3m) and 2.6 million litres of fuel.

It is estimated that over a million litres of fake and low-quality fuel were sold each day. About 200 million litres of fuel were sold from August until now.

After the investigation started, the police noticed that the violators kept expanding businesses and setting up new fuel stations. They smuggled the fuel into Vinh Long and tampered with it before distribute to different fuel stations. They also have patrol boats along the regular routes.

Dong Nai police said they would expand the investigation and prosecute all involved.
