For more than 10 years ago, children in a mountainous village of the northern central province of Thanh Hoa had to study in classrooms that seem on the verge of collapsing.
Na Dang is the poorest and the most remote village in Lam Phu Commune, Lang Chanh District. The whole population of the village are Thai ethnic minority people who mainly live in the nearby forests.
Located 46km from the district centre, including 16km of mountainous, slippery roads, Na Dang nursery school has one only classroom which in reality consists of just a temporary bamboo hut. Twelve children study in what is one of just three nursery schools in Lam Phu Commune.
Nothing has been repaired since 2005. So, the children have been sent to a classroom at nearby Lam Phu Commune Primary School due to safety concerns.
Headmistress Le Thi Ngoc has admitted the school is too small to take any more children anyway.
Na Dang village has 52 households with a total population of 200 people with a majority living below the poverty line.
