| Traffic congestion during peak hours in Ho Chi Minh City |
Deputy PM Phuc has asked leaders from sectors, departments and local authorities to implement tasks and measures to ensure traffic safety, particularly in the big cities.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the National Traffic Safety Committee held a conference to summarize implementation of a decree to mobilize the entire population to join in the efforts to bring about traffic order and safety in Hanoi on December 8.
During the past ten years, positive efforts have been made by people to ensure better traffic safety on roads. Many people took driving tests. Nonetheless, traffic violations have increased and the numbers of vehicles have risen sharply. Traffic congestion in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has become a matter of grave concern.
Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Central Committee proposed to the government to increase penalty levels on traffic violators.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and the National Traffic Safety Committee are planning a program to mobilize the entire population to participate collectively to improve safety on roads.
