Prolonged torrential rain triggered flash flooding in several areas of Danang on the morning of October 18, as water rushed down from nearby mountains, inundating streets and residential neighbourhoods.

Muddy floodwaters poured from the hills, creating fast-moving currents that swept through Au Co Street in Lien Chieu District. Many vehicles stalled in deep water, causing severe traffic congestion and making travel extremely difficult for residents.

Nguyen Van Hung, a local resident on Au Co Street, said heavy rain overnight caused flooding of more than 0.5 metres as early as 5 am. “Hundreds of motorbikes broke down, and several people fell while trying to cross the swift current,” he said.

Many sections of Hoa Khanh Industrial Park were also submerged. Local authorities mobilised rescue teams from Lien Chieu Ward to help residents and direct traffic.

The flooding coincided with rush hour, when workers were heading to factories, leading to gridlock around Thanh Vinh Market.

Meanwhile, Me Suot Street in Hoa Khanh Ward also suffered severe flooding, with residents using makeshift barriers to prevent water from entering their homes.

According to forecasts, heavy rain is expected to continue in Danang over the coming days, with total rainfall ranging from 50 to 150 millimetres, and some areas exceeding 200 millimetres. Meteorologists have issued a level-1 natural disaster warning for heavy rain, urging people to stay alert for flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, and urban flooding in low-lying districts, as well as lightning and strong gusts during thunderstorms.
