Lien Chieu Pork will be connected to the Danang Free Trade Zone.
According to the proposal sent by the city chairman Le Trung Chinh to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Danang FTZ project will encompass areas for logistics, manufacturing, commercial services, innovation, MICE tourism, and duty-free shopping on a total area of over 2,300 hectares.
The city has proposed ten potential locations for the VND40.30 trillion (USD1.61 billion) complex, so the sea encroachment area has not been determined yet.
By 2030, the Danang FTZ aims to contribute 8-9 percent directly to the city’s gross regional product (GRDP) and create approximately 21,000 jobs. By 2040, the zone is expected to account for 9.5 percent of the city’s GRDP and attract around 90,000 workers. The figures will increase to 17.9 percent and 137,000, respectively, by 2050.
At a recent consultation workshop for the FTZ project, Deputy Chairman of the Danang City People’s Committee Tran Chi Cuong emphasised that Danang has thoroughly studied various FTZ models from around the world. While other localities in Vietnam have proposed FTZ models, only Danang has been selected for a pilot project, underscoring the government's confidence in the city’s potential and advantages.
He stated that Danang and relevant ministries are focused on creating a model that aligns with global development trends while maximizing the advantages and potential of Danang, the central region, and Vietnam in the competitive FTZ landscape.
Cuong highlighted that, in addition to Resolution 136, Danang is committed to making bold strides towards breakthrough developments and will continue to propose new mechanisms and policies to advance the FTZ initiative.
On September 1, PM Pham Minh Chinh led a delegation to visit the coastal area near Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, where 420 hectares of water surface can be taken for the construction of a logistics centre. PM Chinh agreed on the encroachment, but requested Danang to carefully study and consider the use of materials.
